HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION

These are the pictures of the Halloween celebration held at our school this morning. Our school assistant, Sophie, turned into a good witch who told us about the origin of this festivity and how she celebrates it at home. We even had the opportunity to see a picture of her when she was a little girl dressed up like a vampire.
There was also a contest and lots of horrific sweet prizes as bloody fingers, skulls, etc. for the winners.  Some students brought scary masks and they got  prizes too.  
In a nutshell, all of us learnt more things about Halloween and had some fun!!!

Are you interested in knowing more about this frightening tradition?

THE BOOK YOU WOULD LIKE TO READ PRIZES

At The Big Challenge ceremony, the winners of the contest we celebrate every year at our school to commemorate the Day of the Book  were also awarded their prizes. This year The Book You Would Like to Read  winners  have been:

All of them received a  little gift to encourage their work as future writers. Congratulations to all of them  for their imagination at writing the story and their hard work  at designing the book cover.

BIG CHALLENGE PRIZES

   

On June 18th, THE BIG CHALLENGE prize giving ceremony was held in our school. Thanks to our students'  hard work and to the teachers' involvement,  we have obtained wonderful results and some of the highest scores in the province and in the country.

Así , JULIA COLEMAN GARCIA (1º ESO) y  ALEJANDRO MARCO CORTÉS ( 4º ESO)  consiguieron el primer puesto de la provincia de Guadalajara y el número 35 y 23 en toda España respectivamente.

Michelle Rabadán de Sousa (4º ESO) quedó la segunda clasificada a nivel provincial, Santiago González-Carvajal Centenera (4º ESO) el 8º a nivel provincial y Pablo Fernández Mondelo (3º ESO) el 9º a nivel provincial.

VISIT TO SHAKESPEARE EXHIBITION

On May 2nd and 3rd the students of the 3rd and 4th year of ESO in the bilingual classes visited an exhibition on William Shakespeare organised by Ibercaja, which included a guided tour in English with  a native speaker. The outing was very successful as the students had the opportunity to practise their listening skills for one and a half hours and to learn lots of things about "the bard of Avon" . Among other things, our students could  also try the special effects used at the time, solve some puzzles on Shakespeare's plays  or  guess what play some film extracts belonged to. It was rewarding to see that they participated enthusiastically and used their comunicative skills  in the English language rather  effectively.

In a nutshell, a fun as well as instructive experience that we wish we could repeat in the future as unfortunately there are very few  English speaking activities of this kind in our town. 

NEXT FILM: JURASSIC PARK

The original science fiction adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg in 1993.  It has become a landmark in the the use of computer-generated images and its release gave rise to a dinosaur fever all around the world . The film gave his director his most important box-office success until then, surpassing  even " E.T. The Extraterrestrial". Spielberg's previous box-office hit.

Una película que definitivamente marcó una época y cuyas dos secuelas dan muestra del éxito de público que tuvo. Ganadora de tres premios "Oscar" en 1994 ( Mejores Efectos Visuales, Mejor Sonido, Mejor Edición de Sonido) , también convirtió en un best-seller la novela homónima de Michael Crichton en la que se basa.

SAINT PATRICK'S CELEBRATION

 

 Here they are some pictures taken at Saint Patrick's celebration. As we promised,  all green-clad students were given a gift. Two of them  ( Daniel Torres and Bastian Aguirre)  had an extra gift due to their original Saint Patrick's dressing and hairstyling .
The winners of Saint Patrick's 10-question quiz were also rewarded with some green green prizes. The latter were: 
 Susana Carrillo, Ane Fernández, Laura Martínez and Esteban Segura (2º ESO).

But the most important thing in this celebration was the speech given by Peter MacGrath, teacher at EOI in Guadalajara, English by nationality but with lots of Irish ancestors in his family ,who was so kind as to come to our school to tell us more about the history of Saint Patrick. We are really  grateful to him as he gave our students the opportunity to listen to a native speaker . After this, some students in 2º ESO performed an Irish dance that was the perfect finale for our particular Saint Patrick's Day celebration.

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY CELEBRATION

Come to celebrate this traditional Irish festivity dressed in green and you will get a gift!!!
The event will be held in room A027 at  break time on March 19th. 
We will have a guest, a native speaker who will tell us a lot of interesting things about Saint Patrick's history and the traditions linked to this day.  The winners of Saint Patrick' s quiz will receive their prizes and there will be other surprises.
Don't miss the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of Ireland 's most widespread tradition!!

LECTURE ON ASTRONOMY IN ENGLISH

Conference “Astronomy. From here, to eternity?”

Speaker: Edmund Leary. PhD in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool. Working at the Instituto Madrileño de Estudios Avanzados (IMDEA) Nanociencia Foundation.

NEXT FILM: BILLY ELLIOT

We welcome the year 2013 with this British film which won three BAFTA Awards (the  British equivalent to the American Oscar Awards).  It is an uplifting ,  emotionally triumphant film  we are sure it will cheer you up.
¿Qué mejor manera de empezar el año con optimismo que  con la historia de un chaval empeñado en conseguir su sueño y en escapar del gris futuro que le espera en su barrio?
We are sure that this film won't disappoint you. It was directed by Stephen Daldry in 2000 and it  stars  Jamie Bell as 11-year old Billy Elliot, a miner's son whose main dream is to become a ballet dancer.
Una historia conmovedora y esperanzadora que no os podéis perder. Os esperamos el próximo miércoles día 6 de Febrero a las 5 de la tarde en el aula A027.
